"The Welcome to Music courses are well pitched to beginners who are in their first experiences of teaching music to young children.
Susie is an extremely caring and supportive educator with decades of knowledge, experience and skills which she willingly shares.
All resources are of very high quality in terms of repertoire selection, models of singing, and linking to core curriculum outcomes.
An enjoyable journey of music learning -and a great entry point to the world of teaching music."

Lisa Woods

"Thanks again for an amazing week! I am sad [that it's over]. This shows me that the power of music uniting people and touching hearts is something that is life long and I feel I have indeed had my heart touched this week."

"This course is a MUST DO for all educators of young children, not just music specialists. As an experienced music educator, I came away from this course with fresh new ideas, further understandings of why I do what I do, new ways to set students up for success, and a confidence to try some new things in my classroom that I know will be of great benefit to those I teach."

Ramona Ponting

"Wow, Wow, Wow, - I signed up as a complete learner with no musical experience or confidence. I was feeling extremely vulnerable - well that was not the case at all.
From the initial contact, to the end of day two of Level 1, there has been nothing but support and encouragement. It’s been a fun filled, informative, interactive, steady paced easy to learn structured course.
The only prerequisite required is to have faith in yourself, be prepared to have a go and engage from the heart in this program. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be part of this program."

Sandra McLoughlin

Our Classic Content, Now Virtually!

"Thank you Susie and Phil for a wonderful week of Music Education. As a beginning teacher with no prior music experience, this course was the perfect starting point for me. It exceeded my expectations in every way.
I used to think it would be hard to implement music into the classroom. However, after four days of training with you, I now feel confident about it and have a bank of activities ready to go. I've learnt that music can be incorporated into everything we do, so seamlessly and authentically.
I appreciate everything you've taught me. I would do it again in a heart-beat - just loved it! You are very clever people with hearts for sharing. Thank you for making the level/professionalism/and likability of your music accessible to all. I love how the melodies, harmonies, rhythms etc are also appealing to us!!! The Teachers!!!!
Thank you I look forward to keeping in touch and learning more."

Laura Barker

"Susie presents her training with a warmth and inclusivity that makes everyone who attends feel valued, worthy and happy to join in with all the activities. Her wealth of knowledge and experience is clearly evident in her programme and teaching style."

Gayle King

Our Philosophy

Why Music?

An involvement in a music program helps to educate the whole individual – intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and creatively.  Children develop confidence, self-esteem, memory, language, communication, listening, concentration, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, imagination and self-expression, while building an excellent foundation for future musical pursuits.

The Research

Research consistently links music and movement activities to supporting learning and development in early childhood education.

We know that music can:
  • Activate the brain for learning
  • Trigger positive emotion
  • Enhance physical development and social skills
  • Build self-esteem and confidence
  • Aid wellbeing
  • Aid self-regulation

Music should be an important part of every high-quality early childhood program.

Our Approach

We use a multi modal, multi-sensory, and Orff based approach to help make the learning stick.

Come and be inspired to make a real and lasting difference to your students!

"Susie & Phil's passion for Music Education along with their collection of outstanding resources, research information and creative practice are undoubted proof of how important music is as a core part of any school curriculum."

Judith Van Amstel

"If you're lacking any confidence or feel unsure about how to handle teaching music to young children, this course is the ultimate resource! Everything is explained in a no-judgement, caring environment, so that no matter what your background is, you feel included and ready to learn.

Susie and Phil's songs, dances, ideas and lessons are some of the most fun, well-scaffolded and exciting content out there - and if it's fun for us to teach, imagine how much fun the kids will find it! I loved every moment of the course, and they look at things you might not think to look at such as transition songs, ukulele and recorder units, and so much more.

It's worth the investment and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to complete this course both live (Stage 1) and via watching recordings afterwards (Stage 2)."

Cassandra Cordero

"A very worthwhile PD. I was skeptical about it being online, but it was extremely convenient and efficient way of learning lots of new things and recharging my musical brain!
I would recommend this to other Early Childhood teachers and music teachers."

Steph Balfour

FAQ: For All Modules

How will I get the most out of the live and online training?

  • Participate in online chats, breakout rooms, networking sessions and ask questions.
  • Join in with all of the activities – body percussion, singing, moving and playing instruments
  • Make sure you have a private space set up in your home or elsewhere – where you can sing, move, play and create joyous music.
  • Have your uke, recorder, instruments and sound makers ready.  Have your notes ready to refer to either printed out or on another device
  • Please be supportive and respectful of the presenters and other participants
  • Bring along your smile and your good cheer to every session

What is the private Facebook group?

On registration, you will receive access to the private Facebook Group called ‘Early Childhood Online Music Courses’. This is a useful forum to share info, make comments, ask questions and keep in touch with Susie and Phil, the logitikats team and other participants before, during and after the course.

What happens if Zoom or the internet doesn’t work properly during the live training?

We try to alleviate technical issues from our end as much as possible by using a paid Zoom membership and an ethernet cable to bypass the Wifi. If there are issues your end, we try to help you as much as we can (often it’s just a matter of refreshing your browser) and can make a number of recommendations. Sometimes there is a lag between the sound and the picture and there is not a lot we can do about that. During the course, we do play some videos and send you the link before each one so that you can play it directly on your computer if need be.

How do I access the video recordings?

During the course, you will receive links to various recordings of vocal warm ups, program lessons, and for Stage 1&2 only - Orff units, recorder and ukulele lessons to watch as part of the training. We will also play these through Zoom to watch live but sometimes these videos just don’t work due to internet issues or there can be a lag between the sound and the video. That’s why there will always be a link as a back-up.

The week after the course, you will receive video recording links that include all of the instruction and discussions. These recorded sessions contain edited portions from past trainings and are sent to you so that you can watch them again OR watch them for the first time if you are not able to attend the live training. These links will be available to view for a 3 month period.

We will also be recording all of the sessions. We may use some video segments on our website, Facebook page, YouTube Channel and in promotional materials. If you do not want to be shown in the recordings, please keep your video off.

What happens if I miss a session or more of the LIVE training OR can only watch the recordings at a time that suits me?

We will not be taking a roll. You are expected to complete the full hours of training either live or in your own time via the recordings to receive the certificate. You will be asked to fill in a Google form agreement prior to watching and participating in all of the course sessions.

What course notes will I receive and how do I access them?

You will be invited to join a Dropbox folder and the course notes will be added to the folder a few days before the course. You can print these out if you wish, or save onto a computer or tablet for reference during the course. The activities and information will be shown as a PowerPoint presentation on a screen throughout the course.  It’s adviseable to have a notepad should you wish to take handwritten notes.

About Susie Davies-Splitter and Phil Splitter

Susie and Phil have been working together for more than 25 years and are both expert music educators, musicians and composers. Their easy-going manner, love of music and ability to connect endears them to children and adults alike.

Susie and Phil firmly believe that all children can benefit from a sound developmental music program and that all Early Childhood educators can easily and successfully teach music regardless of their music background. Their vision is to help make teaching and learning music easy and fun for all and enrich peoples’ lives with the joy of music and the arts.

Susie, with a Master of Education degree from Melbourne University, is a music and movement educator, Orff practitioner, jazz musician, award winning composer and twice past president of the Victorian Orff Schulwerk Association (VOSA) in Australia. She is an ANCOS (Australian National Council of Orff Schulwerk) accredited trainer and leads regular training in Australia, Singapore and China.

Phil has been composing and performing since an early age, playing guitar and percussion, as well as singing in many bands. He is also an accomplished workshop facilitator, motivational speaker, award winning script and songwriter as well as a dynamic and high calibre MC.

Susie and Phil have presented and conducted professional development workshops for teachers throughout Australia, New Zealand, Europe, USA, Canada and Asia. They have also presented workshops and concerts at the International Society of Music Education (ISME) conferences in Spain, Malaysia, Italy and Greece and the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA) conferences in Memphis, San Jose and Denver.

They have regularly presented shows, family music workshops, Artist in Schools programs, professional development PLAYshops for teachers, performances, and their popular ‘Musikeynote’ presentations at conferences.

Over the years, they have been commissioned to write songs for schools and organisations, develop music programs in preschools and schools and direct choral festivals and large scale musical events.

More recently Susie and Phil have set up a not for profit association  'Hearts in Harmony Community Music' (HHCM) -building healthy communities through inclusive music for all ages, faiths and cultures and raising awareness of the importance of active music making in schools and communities everywhere.

HHCM’s mission is to implement sustainable music programs that build capacity and social capital, develop positive connections, enhance health and well-being and embrace diversity in a fun, engaging and non-threatening environment.
